Benefits of using both left- and right-kanded knives as a farrier:

  • Better access and angles: Allows for easier and more precise trimming of the sole and frog when working on opposite sides of the horse.
  • Improved comfort and ergonomics: Using the arm furthest from the horse prevents you from digging your elbow into its side, reducing strain on both you and the horse.
  • Increased efficiency: Switching knives eliminates the need to reposition yourself awkwardly, saving time and effort.
  • Greater control and accuracy: Using the correct knife for each side helps achieve cleaner, more precise cuts, improving hoof health.
  • Enhanced safety: Reduces the risk of slips and accidental cuts by maintaining a natural wrist position.
  • Better clip ftting: This makes creating a recess for clips easier without struggling with awkward angles.
